Dromard club notes

February 05, 2018

Sympathy: Dromard GAA offers its sympathy to Carmel Gill, Gaigue, on the recent death of her mother, Mary Crawford, in Birmingham. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam.

National League: Congratulations to the Longford senior footballers, and to Denis Connerton and Enda Macken and the backroom team, who maintained their excellent form in 2018 by defeating Derry in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday last. Dromard's Ronan McEntire was a very effective second-half substitute and he helped to secure the Longford victory with a fine point from a difficult angle into the town goals. Best of luck to Ronan, Diarmuid Masterson and all the players and management in their next game, away to Armagh in the Athletic Grounds on Sunday next (11th February) at 2pm. Best wishes to Sean McCormack for a speedy recovery from the injury he sustained during the first half of the Derry game.

Steward Training Course: The County Board has announced that a new training course for stewards will be organised in the next couple of weeks. A similar course was ran in February 2014 and anyone who completed that course is now due for renewal. We also require more new stewards to lighten the load on the present people who give great service every week. There will shortly be a requirement on Clubs from both an insurance and health and safety point of view to have a number of qualified stewards available to them for the running of any Club functions or games. As a result, it is important that volunteers from Dromard attend this course. If you are available, please contact any member of the Dromard Club Executive or the County Board directly as soon as possible. Email: [email protected].

Trip to Croke Park: At last week's meeting of Coiste Chontae, Longford GAA Cultural Officer Eamon Brennan advised that he is planning a bus trip to Croke Park on Saturday, 3rd March. This tour will take in a guided tour of Croke Park including the Museum, lunch and tickets for the Allianz Football League game Dublin versus Kerry that evening. This is an ideal trip for the senior members of the Club. Full details will be available in the coming weeks.

Registration for Courses: The Foundation Award is the introductory award for coaches of Gaelic Games. The course is aimed at beginner coaches and will enable participants to assist a coach in the organisation of activities to develop hurling or football. The course is seven and a half hours in duration and covers four key modules, as well as introductory and conclusion modules. These four modules are: Introduction to Games, Skill Development, Movement Skills, Coaching Children, Youths and Adults. In addition, a Code of Ethics course will take place in the coming weeks. To register for either of these courses, please contact 043 3345 219 Monday - Friday 10am - 5:30pm.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

County Panel: It is pleasing to see 4 Dromard girls, Mairead Reynolds, Michelle Kilkenny, Cait Murphy and Sarah Reynolds committing to the County Senior Panel this year. You all bring great credit to our club. Unlike the lads who have shot out the blocks winning their first 2 matches, the girls have unfortunately suffered defeat in their first two games. However, looking on the bright side Wexford and Meath are probably the two strongest sides in the division, so put those losses behind you and imagine your season starts next weekend at home to Down. We wish Paddy Dowd and his management good luck for the rest of the season.

Birthday Greetings: To Senior Panellist Mairead Reynolds, whose Birthday falls this week, and to two of our U/16 Panel who also played such a big part on last year's Senior Panel in the Intermediate Final and in our run to the Leinster Junior Semi-Final, Sarah Murphy and Karen McLoughlin who both turn 16 this week. Enjoy your day and your upcoming season.
