Cotter, Ted

September 08, 2007
Ted Cotter, Ballyagran The death occurred suddenly at his home in Ballyagran of Ted Cotter. A native of Ballyteigue, in the parish of Rockhill-Bruree, Ted came from a farming background. He played hurling and football for many years with Bruree and is recognised by his peers as a skilful and versatile exponent of the game of hurling. As a footballer, he won a South minor medal with Bruree. However, it was in hurling that Ted's greatest successes with Bruree came. He was part of the Bruree team which won South junior titles in 1957, 1963 and 1966. In 1966, Bruree went on to win a famous County junior title. Ted started our his hurling career as a staunch defender but moved to the forward ranks in later years. It was as a forward that Ted played a major part in Bruree's 1966 successes, scoring two goals in the South final and one in the county final. Ted won an All-Ireland Inter-firm medal with Golden Vale and also came to the attention of the county selectors, being given the opportunity to wear the green and white of Limerick. Ted became involved in GAA affairs in his adopted Ballyagran, particularly at underage level. However, he always kept up to date with the activities of his native club and received the news of Bruree's 2006 County Senior title with great delight. We extend our sympathy to his wife, Anne, his children Angela, Carmel and Timmy, his brothers and sisters and his extended family and to his many good friends. May he rest in peace. - Courtesy of The Limerick Leader 8th September 2007
