The late Frank Greene Limerick laid to rest one of its loved and respected members in the person of Frank Greene. Frank a native of Meanus was a leading light in the affairs of the Camogue Rovers GAA club for many years. Alone with his brother Fr Tim Greene, he worked and played with the Rovers after the club was revived in 1954. The new club was led by Michael Quaid, Tom mulchay, Michael Punch, Paddy Naughton and the secretary was Frank Greene. Frank was in Kilmallock when the Rovers returned to the hurling scene after a lapse of 20 years. The panel of players to wear the colours in that year were - Francie Mulqueen, Johnny McCarthy, Jim Hayes, Mike Kirby, Dinny Mac, Pa Keating, Joe Daly, Dan Madden, Nick Hogan, Stephen Hogan, John Hayes, Packie Hogan, Mike Browne, Anthony Burke, Jimmy Farrell, Seanie Blake, Mick Riordan, Phil Fitzgerald, Tadgh Mahony, Paddy Mulcahy, Liam Hayes, Joe Morrissey and Frank Greene. Frank helped the Rovers to honour in the he 1958 south B junior football in the company of Paddy Cusack, Tom Lillis, Jimmy Hogan, John Corbett, Michael Fitzgerald and many more great gaels. Frank circa this time had departed form his native Caherguillamore and Meanus. In the parish of Dromin he continued to work for his favourite sport and now his alligence was with Dromin/Athlacca. He was a member of this club when he was elected the chairman of the south board in 1974. He succeeded Padraig O'Rian and his brother Fr Tim was vice chairman in 1976. His first presentation to a winning captain was in 1974 when Kilmallock defeated Bruff in the south Senior hurling final. Frank was an astute chairman and honest to the core. He never showed favouritism during his term in office an was one of the most respected officers to serve in the south division. The clubs and rank and file in the south had never any reason to complain with his decisions as he always kept to the rules and common sense. Frank was surely one of the most respected and like officers ever to work in the interests of the GAA in south Limerick. Camogue Rovers club, formed a guard of honour as his funeral cortege approached his last resting place. (HG). Courtesy of Limerick Leader 07 October 2006
