Healy, John

September 09, 2006
The Late John Healy It was with sadness that parishioners learned of the death of John Healy of Sallowglen, Tarbert, and Drylands Road, London, on August 26, 2006. John a very popular person was Chairman of Tarbert GAA Club for a number of years ( in the 1980's) and great improvements to Shannon Park Sportsfield were implemented under his stewardship during his time in Office. John's remains were removed from St. Mary's Funeral Home Tarbert to St. Mary's Church nearby on Monday August 28, 2006. Requiem Mass was concelebrated on Tuesday August 29,2006, by Fr. Francis Nolan P.P. Tarbert, by Fr. Pat Moore P.P. Daugh (cousin of the deceased), by Fr. John O'Connor of London and Tarbert (who has served on the London Tarbert Association with John Healy for many years) and by Fr. Tommy O'Hanlon another outstanding GAA man. John's favourite song was the Gallant John-Joe composed in honour of the late great Cavan Footballer. So in a fitting tribute Tarbert Choir member John Dowling obliged with an outstanding rendition of the Gallant John-Joe at the Mass. Burial took place immediately afterwards and I feel it is appropriate that John's final resting place should be in the new portion of St. Mary's Cemetery which is adjacent to and bordering Shannon Park Sportsfield. At the graveside eloquent orations that John would have been very proud of were uttered by Paddy Creedon, Chairman of Tarbert GAA Club, and Mike Wren from Ballinoe a life long friend of John. John is survived by his sisters: Bridie, Josephine and Mary and brothers: Joseph, Thomas and Michael, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and a large circle of friends, some who travelled from London to pay their final respects, to whom our deepest sympathy is extended.
