Educated at St. Patrick's national school and CBS, Sexton Street he worked as a clerk in the GPO, Limerick but later joined the Civil Service. He worked for two years in Dublin, when a vacancy arose in Limerick, his great love for his native city saw him return to Limerick where he was employed in the Revenue Commissioners department. He was a life long member of St. Patrick's GAA club and gave great service to the club as player and administrator. He won a county senior hurling medal in 1950 and a county senior football hurling medal in 1954. He did great work for the Irish Wheelchair Association and was a eucharistic minister at St. Brigid's Church. The large attendance at this funeral was testimony to his popularity, fittingly the members of St. Patrick's GAA club provided a guard of honour.
