O'Brien, Breda

December 30, 2005
The Late Breda O'Brien, Murroe With much sadness the communities of Abington and Murroe recently laid to rest one of their most loved and admired parishioners, Breda O'Brien. Breda was well known in the Limerick area in her role as secretary to the regional Civil Defence officer in Sarsfield Barracks from 1969-1990 and as assistant Civil Defence officer with Limerick County Council from 1990-2002. Breda is fondly remembered for her unstinting dedication to the Civil Defence and was a founder member and first honourary secretary of the Civil Defence Active, Retirement Club, playing an active role in the organisation of the club events. Breda was also well known for her artistic abilities and her love of art and painting. Having a great dedication to Our Lady, Breda was among the parishioners who made the annual pillgrimage to Knock. This year Breda realised her wish to visit the holy site of Lourdes, which she did in the company of her daughter, Mairead and her friend, Hayley Lee. Breda is affectionately remembered for her love of music and dancing and along with her husband, Johnny spent many evenings enjoying both at the local Powers Club. Breda's son, Timothy is well known in Limerick GAA circles as a hurler of considerable promise. As a mark of the great esteem in which she was held, the Civil Defence and Murroe GAA formed guards of honour at her funeral. The communities of Murroe and Abington are poorer for her absence and she will be greatly missed by all. May we extend our deepest sympathies to her husband, Johnny; son, Timothy; daughter, Mairead; sister, Rita; brother-in-law, Joe, nephew, Gerard and to her many friends.
