Lloyd, Jim

The Late Jim Lloyd A few weeks have now passed since the sad news filtered through Kilmallock of the death of Jim Lloyd. Jim was a friendly and unassuming gentleman who gave most of his life to underage training in Kilmallock and helped many a person in his position in the Department of Social Welfare. Adare's loss was Kilmallock's gain when work commitments brought Jim to Kilmallock. During the mid-seventies his underage training structure helped turn many a young lad into a mature senior player. The high esteem in which Jim was held was to be seen with the huge turnout of players past and present at both the removal and funeral. In the early 80's Jim became secretary of Kilmallock GAA club and went to hold the position of Chairman of South Board na nOg and chairman of Kilmallock GAA, a position he relished. Jim's proudest and most enjoyable time with the club was when he became involved with the Senior team in '92 and '93 when as a selector, they won the Munster club title and they went on to grace the sod of Croke Park in an All Ireland club final. They narrowly lost but Jim was proud. Jim played an active and influential role in Kilmallock club until shortly before his death and will be sadly missed. His son Seamus still plays with Kilmallock. He is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Diarmuid, Seamus and P.J. and daughter Helena. Courtesy of the Limerick Leader June 2003
