Hennessy, Tom

December 11, 2003
The Late Tom Hennessy Limerick GAA is in mourning with the sudden death of one of its great stalwart. Tom Hennessy of Kilmallock, died suddenly and is deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary, son Tom and daughters Marie, Marcella and Bernadette. Although not a native of Kilmallock, Tom spent almost 35 years of his life living in the town where he has left a lasting legacy. He was a key figure in championing a campaign to make Kilmallock a notable feature on the tourist trail. He took an active involvement in the reconstruction and completion of the Memorial Park, the Pastoral Centre, the 'crochta' martyr site and the sports complex. Tom was the FÁS supervisor in the town before his untimely death. Probably the one abiding memory of Tom however, is his love of his family and the local GAA. He was a selector on the victorious minor hurling team in 1987 and served time as club treasurer before taking up the mantle of secretary in the late 1990's. He served on the GAA committee in various other capacities for many years as well as being a long standing club member. His son Tom is one of the few Dr. Harty medal holders in the town, which he won with Saint Flannans of Ennis. By Aine Fitzgerald Courtesy of the Limerick Leader 11th December 2003
