Broderick, Donie

December 23, 2004
The Late Donie Broderick GAA followers are mourning the passing of Donie Broderick of Dromcollogher. Donie played with Limerick in the 1956 Munster senior hurling final against Cork. On that occasion he marked Christy Ring and on many an occasion the story been retold of how he kept Cork captain Christy Ring scoreless for 50 minutes. In the end Ring was switched off the Dromcollogher man and Cork went on to win. One year earlier, Broderick won a Munster title, when Limerick defeated Clare 2-15 to 2-6 - he lined out in the right corner back position. With Dromcollogher he won three county junior hurling championships. In 1963 he came out of retirement to win his third. A former bus driver with CIE, Donie is survived by his sons Frank and John and daughters Theresa, Patricia and Elizabeth. Courtesy of the Limerick Leader 23rd December 2004
