The Late Jimmy Hassett Well known Castleconnell man, Jimmy Hassett, Mountshannon, Lisagry passed to his eternal reward peacefully on Saturday February 15, in the Regional Hospital. Jimmy who was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kitty; his sons, Jim, John, Martin, Tom and his grandson, Tony died at the grand age of 93 years. A loving husband and father, his family was a great source of pride and joy to him. Despite these grave losses which Jimmy had borne with great dignity he endeavoured to carry on with the loving support of his family and live life to the full until his demise. Jimmy was an avid gardener and a keen sportsman, he was a member of the victorious Ahane teams who won five football titles in 1935, '36, '37, '38, and '39, essentially however he was a family man. A member of a family of 13, he was born in Kilkee some 93 years ago, he brought to his life and work the values, the personal strengths and resources that typified a rural community of the West of Ireland in the early '90s. As a neighbour and friend Jimmy was exemplary, and could be counted on for any assistance or support that might be requested of him. In his spare time, Jimmy loved to play cards, particularly "45". There was a very large attendance at his removal, evidenced by his popularity. His coffin was draped with the Ahane GAA flag. Officers and members of the Ahane Club formed a guard of honour at his removal. This gentle soul will be lovingly remembered by his son, Pat; daughters, Nora and Ann; son-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, Seamus, Mary, John and Cormack; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbours, relatives and friends. His remains were removed from Meehan's Funeral Home, Castleconnell on Sunday February 20 to Castleconnell Church. Burial took place after Concelebrated Mass on the following Monday to Stradbally Cemetery. Chief Concelebrant was Rev Fr James Minogue, assisted by Rev Fr Kyne and Rev Fr Dermot McCormick.
