The Late Owen Sheehan Former Limerick Gaelic footballer Owen Sheehan was laid to rest this week in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath. A native of Pallaskenry, the 41 year old died suddenly at his home in County Meath. Sheehan was one of the top scorers with the Limerick senior footballers throughout the 1980's an was a substitute when Limerick were defeated by Kerry in the 1991 Munster Final. In one game of note, Sheehan scored four goals and two points in a Munster Championship clash with Waterford. When work took him to Dublin, Sheehan played his club football with Erin's Isle with whom he won a Dublin County Senior Football Championship in the early 1990's. He was also a soccer player of note with Pallaskenry and Mungret Regional. Former colleagues from Pallaskenry GAA and Soccer club's shouldered the coffin from the mortuary to the church. Limerick Football Board Chairman, Owen Hayes, said that Sheehan's sudden death was a "sad loss". "Owen was a great footballer and played at the highest level for Limerick - he was also very proud of Pallaskenry," said the chairman. A minute's silence was observed, in his memory, prior to the senior football challenge between Limerick and Cork, which marked the official opening of the Gaelic Grounds.
