The Late Paddy Liston The sudden death of Paddy Liston came as a great shock to his wife, family, relatives and friends. It was an occasion of great sadness to all who knew Paddy, especially his wife Peggy, sons Peter and Matthew, sister Maura, nephew niece, daughter-in-law Breda, sister-in-law and brother-in-law. Paddy resided at Marhan Terrace, Tipperary Town and was formerly of Coolybrown, Ardagh, Co.Limerick. He began working the ESB on the rural electrification scheme in 1949, having served in many areas in Co.'s Limerick, Tipp-Clare and Cork. When the rural electrification scheme was completed, Paddy was appointed to Tipperary Town area where he remained until his retirement in 1984. He also spent some time in Portlaoise ESB Line School as an instructor. During his time in Tipp and while engaged in pole erection in the Emly area, he and his fellow workers discovered an ancient urn which contained human bones and arranged that the find was taken to the National Museum. In 1956 he married Peggy Connolly of Ardmayle, Cashel. All through his life, Paddy was an ardent Limerick GAA supporter. In his younger years he played hurling and football with is native Ardagh with whom he won a junior football medal in 1948. He also displayed his hurling skills with Suir View Rangers A team from the famed Boherlahan parish. On his retirement Paddy was instrumental in setting up Tipp-Cahir Retired ESB Staff Association. He was also a member of Tipperary Active Retirement Association and participated in their various activities. He was a lifelong member of the P.T.A.A.. He had many other interests including walking and gardening. Paddy will be remembered for his willingness to come to the assistance of anybody in need, especially in his rural electrification days when conditions were often very difficult. Sincere sympathy was extended to his wife, sons, sister, nephews, niece, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends who are saddened at his sudden passing.
