The Late John O'Brien The death of John O'Brien of Lis na Lanive, Angleboro and Mitchelstown caused widespread shock throughout North Cork and South East Limerick. John was a highly respected member of the farming and business communities and someone who played a major role in all community activities in Angelsboro and Mitchelstown. He was also an extremely devoted political activist coming from a family whose late father Pat and uncle Jack were founder members of Fianna Fail and former Old IRA veterans who had participated in the Glenacurrane ambush. A guard of honour was formed by Mitchelstown and Anglesboro Fianna Fail also Liam Lynch memorial committee and the Galtee Gaels GAA club. The coffin was draped in the tri-colour and Galtee Gaels colours. The cortege was accompanied by his daughter Marie, who played laments and slow airs on the bagpipes. Interment too place in Anglesboro cemetery. He is sadly missed by his wife Peggie, daughters Marie, Joan, Margo and Esther, son Pat, brother Jim, relatives and friends. The very large and representative attendance at the obsequies included deputy Ned O'Keeffe, former Minister of State, deputy John Cregan, councillor Fran O'Flynn, chairman of the Liam Lynch memorial committee and member of the National executive of Fianna Fail, Councillors, John Gallahue and Patrick McAuliffe.
