The Late William Mulcahy William Mulcahy was born on October 10 1916. He passed away on Sunday February 9 2003. Living in Riddlestown he went to school in Coolcappa. He was an altar server for many years and it was a great joy for him to see his granddaughter Clare become an altar server in Rathkeale. His people being farmers he went into the farming business. He had a great love of the land and farming. He had a great interest in sport such as coursing, greyhound racing on the track, horse racing and hurling which he played in the 1930's and 40's. He played on the winning Rathkeale Dromard team in the county senior hurling championship final in 1948, and kept up his interest in Rathkeale hurling teams and Limerick teams down through the years. He could discuss and had a great interest in current affairs, rationing in World War 2, in war itself, the economic war in the 1930's, compulsory tillage. He was a committee member on the old creamery committee for a number of years. He married Celine McMahon from Rathkeale in 1958. His life revolved around his wife, daughters Mary and Nora, sons Tony, Willie-John, Pat and then in latter years his grandchildren as well. He was adamant about education and having his family educated. He was an avid reader of newspapers. His brother Chris predeceased him approximately 30 years ago. His remains were removed from Magner's Funeral Parlour to St. Mary's Church, Rathkeale, where after Mass he was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Chief celebrant at his funeral Mass was Fr. Willie Russell C.C., assisted by Canon Joseph Dempsey P.P., Fr. Michael O'Shea C.C., St Munchin's Parish and Fr. Maurice Costello, Rathkeale. The Church choir sang the hymns for the Mass and his grandchild Clare was one of the Mass servers. He is mourned by his wife Celine daughters Mary and Nora, sons, Tony, Willie John, Pat, grandchildren, sons-in-law, relatives and wide circle of friends. Courtesy of the Limerick Leader March 2003
