Noonan, Mary

February 28, 2003
The Late Mary Noonan The death occurred, after a brief illness of Mrs Mary Noonan (nee Scully) Duntryleague, Galbally. The deceased was a member of the highly respected and popular family and her death is deeply regretted. She was a lady who could only be termed as of quiet disposition with an abounding spirit of good neighbourliness which made her highly respected and most popular in the parish where she was born and reared. She had an outstanding trait of character and was possessed with a ready wit and humour for which she was well known. The names of Noonan and Scully have been associated with Gaelic games in the parish for in excess of 90 years. Her late husband Michael was a Gaelic footballer of more than average ability who played with his native Galbally and in the adjoining parish of Emly and wore the blue and gold of Tipperary with distinction before returning to his native parish of Galbally. His sons Billy, Paddy and Dick followed in the footsteps of their late father at club level while his son Michael was a loyal supporter of the local club and Limerick county teams. Paddy is also known as a competent umpire at club and inter- county level. The remains of the deceased were removed from Frazer's Funeral Home, where the prayers were recited by Canon Talbot PP, to the Church of Christ the King, Galbally where they were received by Canon Talbot and following concelebrated Requiem Mass the chief celebrant of which was Canon Talbot assisted by Father Seamus Rochford PP, Emly, Father Sean Kennedy CC, (do) and Reverend Father Joe Tynan CC Galbally/Aherlow the Interment took place in Galbally cemetery. The attendance at both the removal of remains Mass and burial was very large which paid tribute to the popularity of the deceased and her family. She is survived and mourned by her loving sons Michael, Billy, Paddy and Dick, daughter-in-law Ellen, grandchildren, grandchild, cousins, other relatives and friends.
