MINOR HURLERS

Our minor hurlers were back in Championship action last Friday when Kilmallock came to Pairc Dromguil for a very important fixture especially for our lads.

Having performed poorly in their last outing it was imperative that a positive performance was delivered.

A couple of positional switches along with a few personal changes had the desired effect .

Right from the throw in it was evident that the lads meant business.

Our inside line of Emmet, Reuben and Eoghan were sharp and profitted from some great deliveries.

Emmet in particular made hay and had 2 goals chalked up inside the first 30 minutes.

One of his goals in particular was set up superbly from a brilliant pass by Keith Dempsey.

Hurling more as a unit the lads worked hard and showed great determination throughout the hour.

We led at the break 3-8 to 0-3 with our third goal coming from Reuben McCarthy.

The second half was barely started when new goalkeeper Daragh O Gorman pulled off a great save to deny the Balbec. He was overall very efficient throughout the game and a second important save followed in the dying minutes of the contest to keep his goal in tact.

James Daly kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely with some well taken frees, five in total along with Reuben McCarthy who finished with a goal and two points with his corner forward partner Emmet McEvoy with a tally of two goals and two points.

Mark Daly showing his prowess with an all action display at wing back which became infectious with Christy O Hagan and Ralph Leonard in the corners snuffing out all danger.

In the middle third of the field Pauric Heaney and Lucas O Sullivan more than held their own along with Sean Long and Keith Dempsey.

A much improved performance and one which will instill much needed belief in to the team going forward.

Next up for the lads are Adare next weekend.

Team: Daragh O Gorman, Christy O Hagan, Paul Considine, Ralph Leonard, Liam Barry, Jerome Boylan, Mark Daly, Pauric Heaney, Lucas O Sullivan(0-1), Keith Dempsey(0-2), Sean Long(0-1), James Daly(0-6, 5f), Emmet McEvoy(2-2), Reuben McCarthy(1-2), Eoghan Sherlock. Subs used: Adam McNamara, Conor Stack

Final Score Na Piarsaigh 3-14 Kilmallock 0-6

JUNIOR HURLERS

Our third string hurlers were in action on Saturday evening in the City Championship when they travelled to Rathbane to take on Crecora.

In a tight first half which was dominated by frees it was Gordon Leonard who kept us in touch with his free taking.

Our goalkeeper Sean McKeogh was excellent throughout showing great assurance under pressure and delivering great puck outs as well.

He was well protected by Tom Quinn, Mike Andrews and Mark Considine in the full back line all hurling well.

Paul McNamara at center back showing all his experience along with Daragh Kennedy at midfield.

The introduction of Ronan Houlihan at the break had the desired effect as he helped himself to 1-2 from play in the second half.

Up front Kevin Hodnett was causing chaos and a powerful run leading to a penalty was was superbly dispatched by Gordon Leonard.

A third goal from kevin Daly gave us a cushion and some excellent points from Ian Considine sealed an excellent win.

The lads now qualify for the semi final with one round of matches left.

Great work being done by Frank Holohan, Cian Kelly and Mike Flynn keeping the show on the road.

Team: Sean McKeogh, Tom Quinn, Mike Andrews, Mark Considine, Paul Downes, Paul McNamara, Paul Considine, Peter Hodnett, Daragh Kennedy, Daniel Long, Gordon Leonard, Kevin Daly, Ian Considine, Kevin Hodnett, Jack Ryan. Sub Used: Ronan Houlihan
