MINOR HURLERS

Our minor hurlers.opened their Championship campaign on Friday when Mungret arrivef to Pairc Dromguil.
Minus the services of several starting players we nevertheless were very compete matching Mungret in most departments.
The free takers on both sides showed great skill and nerve both chipping in with 5 first half points.
It was Mungret who raised the first green flag of the contest following a defensive lapse to put some daylight between the teams.
The lads battled  bravelyl and narrowed the gap on approach to half time to leave a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-8 at the break.
The second half was a similiar affair with scores hard to come by but the concession  of a second goal proved decisive and in spite of a late Cameron DiBenniditto goal we trailed in the end by 2-16 to 1-10.
Work to be done but no doubt with relaxed minds following the leaving cert we will see a different team on the field.
Those prominent on the day were Sean Long, Emmett McEvoy, Pauric Heaney, Lucas O Sullivan and Keith Dempsey.
Team: Shane Kelly, Christy O Hagan, Paul Considine, Ralph Leonard, Liam Barry, Sean Long, Pauric Heaney, John Leahy, Reuben McCarthy,  Cameron DiBenedetto  (1-0), Lucas O Sullivan  (0-1), Daragh O Gorman,  Keith Dempsey,  James Daly (0-7,5f), Emmett McEvoy(1-1)

SENIOR FOOTBALLERS

Round 1 of the Irish Wire sponsored County Senior Football Championship was held last weekend where our opponents were Dromcollogher Broadford, a replay of the 2016 County semi final which Drom won by a goal.
Played on Thursday evening in excellent condition in Askeaton except for a slight breeze which favoured Drom in the first half.
It was our opponents who started the better and were a few points to the good and settled before we got a foothold in the game
Despite the lack of activity on the scoreboard we did have plenty of possession in the opponents half but poor decision making and wayward shooting was our downfall with a lot of lateral movement and lack of penetration.
The Dromcollogher forwards were moving well and by the half time they led 6 points to 1.
Our lone score coming from the boot of Kieran Daly.
I am not aware of the wide count but have my suspicion it was pretty high in that half with good opportunites crafted out but shooting letting us down.
The second half was an improvement with more drive shown but again the scoreboard wasn't been affected.
Three further frees from Kieran Daly and an Eoin Hogan point gave us hoipe but when Drom raised their second green flag it was uphill all the way to the finish.
Credit to the lads who never stopped battling and were rewarded with a goal courtesy of an excellent Evan Condon finish.
Those to the fore were Evan O Brien, Eoghan Kehilly, Kieran Daly and the hard working Will O Donoghue who fought bravely against a solid Dromcollogher Broadford team.
Final Score Dromcollogher Broadford 2-13 Na Piarsaigh 1-5

Team: Luke Moylan, Cian Coady, Dean McLoughlin, Evan O Brien, Mark Buckley, Kevin Nolan(capt), Gordon Brown, Eoghan Kehilly, Will O Donoghue, Tommy Grimes, Michael Casey, Eoin Hogan(0-1), Kieran Daly(0-4, 3f)Evan Condon, Brian Shannon.

UNDER 15 HURLERS

Our under 15 hurlers opened their account with a narrow victory over Glenroe in Pairc Dromguil during the week.
This was a very entertaining game with our lads starting particularily well with points from Patrick O Neill and Dylan Lynch.
This settled the lads and they were quickly in their stride playing some great hurling.
Two quick fire goals from Patrick O Neill and a bullet from Colm Downey had us in the drivers seat.
Further good play from the team had us further in front with points by Dylan Lynch(2frees), Colm Downey, Dillon Skehan and Marcus Hogan had in a commanding position at the break 2-7 to 1-2.
Two rapid fire goals from Glenroe put the cat amongst the pigeons and the teams were all square entering the closing stages.
However with tensions high and nerves ratltled, the lads showed their metal and a second Colm Downey and along range Mark O Connor point saw us home in a great battle.
Final Score na Piarsaigh 3-8 Glenroe 3-6
