Jimmy Barry Murphy - not to be mistaken with the Cork hurling manager - played a captain's part as Ballylanders claimed a fourth Fr. Casey Cup and their first since 2007 with victory over St. Patrick's in Newcastle West.

In the first final not to involve a West Limerick club since 1999, all 18 scores remarkably came from play. The winners had an early let-off when St. Patrick's Gearoid Hegarty rattled the crossbar before two points from JBM helped them to a 0-3 to 0-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Ballylanders tightened their grip on proceedings when James Kirby netted in the 22nd minute to give them a 1-6 to 0-4 half-time lead.

Points from Hegarty and sub John Mullane saw the city side reduce the gap to four points entering the final quarter, but then Danny Frewen struck Ballylanders' second goal to give them a 2-7 to 0-6 cushion.

Eoin Hanrahan pulled a goal back for St. Patrick's in injury-time, but it was a case of too little, too late.
