Allen, Ned

July 27, 2013
Sincere sympathy is extended to the Allen family of Kiltrislane, Mitchelstown, on the death of Edmond - more popularly and fondly known as "Ned". Ned was a son of the late Willie and Lena Allen and a former resident of Lackendarra Anglesboro.
In his early life Ned made a huge contribution to community life in Anglesboro - as did all the members of the Allen family. Their speciality was to the GAA clubs. Ned often lined out with great pride on the playing field of South Limerick in the maroon and white of Galtee Gaels. He made a huge contribution to the club in transporting players to underage games in the early seventies, when cars were scarce. There were often times when the only transportation available to take people to the matches was from the Allen brothers, Ned and Liam. When the Scor competitions were set up by the GAA in 1970, the very talented Ned regularly took to the stage to give outstanding performances. He married Bridget Norris of Mitchelstown in 1977. They set up home in Kiltrislane, where they had two children, William and Tomas. Ned was employed all of his working life as a Creamery Manager with Mitchelstown Creameries, which later became Dairygold Co-Operative Society. He always carried out all of his duties with great diligence and respect for all he worked with. Ned retired from his life long career in Dairygold approximately seven months ago. Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Bridget, sons William and Tomas, his brothers Henry, Tommy, Liam and John, his sister Esther and to his extended family, relatives and friends.
