Jim McMahon - 'True gentleman' who was well known and respected by all in his native Nicker

Nicker had lost one of its more senior and respected people, with the death of Jim McMahon. One of nature's gentlemen, his kind and friendly disposition endeared him to all in the community.

Anybody who ever met Jim had the utmost respect for him. A man who worked hard all his life, he epitomised the value of a good neighbour
to so many in the area. The greater part of his working days were spent with CIE or larnrod Eireann as it is known today.

They came from all corners to render their last respects to a man, respected for his honesty, endeavour, kindness, and friendship

He was an ardent GAA supporter and played hurling and football for his local team Pallasgreen. He was an exceptionally talented and stylish wielder of the caman. He was associated with
Pallasgreen teams in their most successful era and particular with the 1968 hurling team that captured the junior championship, a team that defeated St. Mary's Rathkeale in the Gaelic Grounds.

Jim McMahon slipped away from us quietly, appropriately enough, while strolling through his beloved Nicker. His regular walks with his dog are no longer.

He will be remembered fondly as a decent man with a good heart and a deep and generous nature.

He was a lifelong member and staunch supporter of Pallasgreen GAA Club. The coffin was draped in the blue and gold of Pallasgreen and the cortege was accompanied to the church and cemetery by a guard of honour comprising past and present members of Pallasgreen GAA Club.

Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev Fr Pat Burns, assisted by Canon Liam McNamara, Fr Conor Hayes and Fr Anthony McSweeney. The ceremony was enriched by the beautiful singing and
music of Majella Diggins and Bernie O'Doherty and organist Mary T Ryan.

His final journey led the cortege to Old Pallas where it was met by a guard of honour from Pallasgreen GAA Club who accompanied it to the cemetery. May the soil of Old Pallas cemetery lie lightly upon
you and may you be rewarded with eternal peace and happiness.

He is survived by his sister Nell, brothers Jerry and John, nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
