Limerick Football News
All Limerick GAA supporters are looking forward to the start of the
Munster Senior Football Championship in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday
next when Limerick take on Cork at 7pm. This is Limerick's first
competitive outing since the Division 4 final victory in Croke Park on
27th April. Training has been going well for the squad however Ian
Ryan is out through injury having picked up an ankle injury in Croke
Park. We wish Maurice Horan and his management team and Seanie Buckley
(Captain) the very best of good luck in this game. Your support is
requested on Saturday Night. This game is preceded at 5pm by Limerick
v Cork in the Junior Football Championship. This team is the Limerick
Development squad comprising of most of this years Un.21 plus some
more established players. The manager is Tom McGlinchy and the team
captain is Patrick O Donnell (Galbally). The junior team will be
announced on Friday evening at 7pm. We also wish them luck.
On the Club front the All County Senior and Intermediate leagues
continue this weekend with fixtures on Saturday and Sunday.
Munster Championship comes to Limerick
Limerick will play Cork in the Quarter Final of the Munster Senior
Football Championship on this Saturday May 25th at 7pm in Gaelic
Grounds, Limerick. Ticket Details are as follows General Admission for
Adult is €20 and General Admission for Student and OAP is €15 with all
under 16s free. Saturday Munster Senior Football Championship
Quarter-Final will be refereed by Michael Duffy (Sligo) with standby
Referee Derek Fahy (Longford) with linesman Keith O'Brien (Tipperary)
and sideline official Liam Devanney (Mayo). The winners play Clare in
the Munster Semi-Final on Sunday June 16th at 3:30pm in Cusack Park
Ennis. Limerick have failed to score a goal in their last five Munster
Championship matches against Cork, averaging 10.2 points during those
games dating from 2003 to 2009. Limerick's last goals against Cork in
the Munster Championship came in the 2000 Quarter-Final when
Limerick's 2-08 was not enough to defeat Cork's tally of 3-13 at
Kilmallock. Recent Cork v Limerick meetings in the Munster Senior
Football Championship 2009 Final Cork 2-06 Limerick 0-11 at Pairc Ui

Limerick topped the Allianz Football League Division 4 table despite
scoring just 78 points during their 7 games (11 points per match).
Only London (75 points) scored less. Limerick's success was based on
their stingy defending with a concession of 71 points. Tipperary was
the top scorers in the division with 106 points on aggregate (15+ per
game) but conceded 90 points. Waterford (For 90, Against 96) and Clare
(For 96, Against 86) were the other Munster counties in Division 4.
Limerick's Ian Ryan was the top scorer in the 2012 Munster Senior
Football Championship with 1-17 (0-11 frees) in two matches. Colm
Cooper (Kerry) with 0-9 (0-5 frees) and Colm O'Neill with 0-09 (0-3
frees) finished joint second. There was an 18% decrease in the number
of scores in the 2012 Munster Senior Football Championship as compared
to 2011 (33 scores per game versus 27) but overall the trend is up
over recent years - 2008 (21 scores per game), 2009 (24 scores per
game), 2010 (28 scores per game), 2011 (33 scores per game), 2012 (27
scores per game). Since 2000, Limerick have won as many matches in the
Munster Senior Football Championship (10) than Tipperary (2), Clare
(6) and Waterford (2) combined. Only 3 of those 10 Limerick victories
have come at home, against Waterford in 2004 (1-18 to 0-07), versus
Clare in 2006 (2-05 to 0-08) and against Waterford in 2012 (2-12 to
0-07). At 5pm Limerick junior football team will play Cork in the
Quarter Final of the Munster Junior Football Championship with David
Grogan (Tipperary) as Referee.
Green & White Magazine.
Joint editors of the Green & White Magazine Joe Lyons and Ciaran Crowe
had a busy day last Sunday when they successfully launched their
magazine 50th issue, of the Green & White the magazine was originally
launched back in 1996. Mr Liam O Neill Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas
Gael officiate at the launch in front of large attendance Mr. O Neill
gave great praise to Joe and Ciarán for their work on the magazine and
also in their involvement in promoting all aspect of G.A.A. games to
young children Members of the Limerick County and School boards were
also inattendences. The launch to place at the Castleoaks Hotel in
Castleconnell

Limerick Intermediate Hurling
Limerick travelled to Galway last Monday evening and took on the home
County in Athenry for a challenge game and came away with a good
victory. Limerick intermeduiate side on the night was Conor O Brien,
Shane Irwin, Jeff Lohan, Michael Reidy, Tommy Giltenane, Cathal
McNamara, Barry Lynch,Conor Kearney, Paudie Leahy, Brendan Giltenane,
Barry O Connell, Michael Ryan, Willie Muffins, Niall Kennedy and
Richie Burke.
Unveiling of the Mick Mackey Commemorative Statue.
The big day arrived for the Ahane G.A.A. Club last Sunday when the
unveiling of The Mick Mackey statue took place in Castleconnell.
President of the G.A.A. Liam O Neill and Ahane Club chairman unveil
the statue. The day started with a parade with the Boherbouy Band
followed by the underage hurling, football, camoige, ladies football
teams from Ahane. John Meskell who did a great job as MC for the day
as he kept proceedings going. Invited guests were Liam O Neill
president CLG, Robert Frost chairman Munster Council, Michael O
Muircheartaigh and numerous others. The National Anthem was played by
Boherbouy Band before Ahane G.A.A. Club Chairman Turlough Herbert got
proceedings under way and he welcomed everyone for attending. He was
followed by numerous speakers but the crowd became silent when singer
Anne Mulqueen went up to sing the song Mick Mackey and his Men.
Following this president of the GAA Liam O Neill address the large
gathering and when finished Liam O Neill and Chairman Turlough Herbert
unveiled the statue with a musical salute by the band to a huge
applause. The statue was then blessed by Fr Liam Ryan. A 50 page
souvenir booklet was on sale for €5 full of memoirs, photos and
interviews with past and present players it's a must for all GAA fans
young and old to get a hold of.
Staker Wallace G.A.A. Grounds Official Opening.
Staker Wallace G.A.A. Grounds in Martinstown was the place to be last
Sunday evening when the official opening took place President Liam O
Neill and The Limerick 1973 All Ireland winning side and beaten
finalist Kilkenny was greeted by the big attendance at half time.
Music entertainment was provided by the Artane Band and MC on the
evening was Michael O Muireartaigh. Limerick senior hurling team
recorded a 1-25 to 1-19 victory in the challenge game.Congratulations
to the members of the Staker Wallace Club for having their grounds and
the playing surface in great condition.
Mackey Cup
The Mackey Cup schools finals took place last Tuesday evening in U.L.
and following the two semi-finals the West Limerick schools and South
Limerick schools faced each other in the final. The final on the score
line of 6-06 to 0-05 looked like a one sided affair but West Limerick
where unlucky, as they missed a number of chances, where South
Limerick took theirs. Listed are the results of the games after
exciting games of hurling.

Lmerick Post Primary A hurling final
Charleville C.B.S. 3-16 Ard Scoil Ris 1-07
Three in a row was recorded by Charleville C. B. S. in the at Mick
Neville Park. They colleges have met many times in finals in the past
seasons and as usual fine fare was served up. Charleville enjoyed the
leadership set by John Geary from Newtownshandrum who finished the
hour with a tally of 2-8 and David Jones at full forward scored 1-5.
Geary 1-5 and Jones 1-3 were the first half scorers for Charleville.
Jason Gibbons 1-2 and Mark Gaule 0-2 lifted Ard Scoil Ris scores in
this half. Charleville continued to perform well against the wind in
the second period as they did in the opening 30 minutes. Best for
Charleville John Geary, David Jones, P J Herr, Jack O' Callaghan,
James Fitzgerald and Timothy Hawe. The losers had fine hurlers in Mark
Gaule, Jason Gillane, Bryan Curtin, Josh Considine, Colin Shiels.

Post Primary B under 14 hurling Final
Colaiste Iosaef 5-16 Crescent Comprehensive 0-05
It was all too easy for Scoil Iosaef, Kilmallock over Crescent
Comprehensive in the Post Primary B under 14 hurling at Rathkeale.
They totally dominated the match with Paul O' Riordan the star of
Kilmallock, notching a score of 3-05. O' Riordan had 2-00 in the first
half and Liam English had a goal while the city college could only
manage 0-03. At half time it was 3-09 to 0-03.
Kilmallock coaches Daniel Hogan, Annacarty and Noel Kelly, Cappawhite,
had their charges in fine form.

Un.14 C hurling Final
Scoil Pol 6-12 Ard Scoil Ris 1-03
It was too much to expect Ard Scoil Ris to field a strong team in
under 14 C hurling and so they fell badly to Scoil Pol, Kilfinane in
the Post Primary final at Rathkeale. Sean O' Dwyer raced through for a
gaol in first attack and from there they went on to win easily. Tom
Nedelec pulled back a goal for Ard Scoil Ris but they continued to
fall into arrears and at the break it was 2-8 to 1-0. Barry Dunworth
tried hard to revive Ard Scoil Ris in the second period Sean O' Dwyer
had two goals to end the hopes of the Caherdavin side and Tyrone Ryan
and Laura English with further goals made the path clear for Darren
Carroll to accept the winning trophy from Gerry Bennis.
