Sean Finns 2-11 Deel Rangers 2-10
Our under 16 footballers played Deel Rangers in the Bog Garden last Monday evening the 7th. We started the game very well, and a goal by Tommy Dillane had us leading by 5 points with only 15 minutes of the first half played. A few more nice scores were to follow from the boots of Andrew White, Patrick Naughton and Brian Meade. Credit must go to defenders in the first half for their hard work and tenacity against a lively forward line of Deel Rangers. The half time score was 1-06 to 0-02 in favour of Rathkeale. The second half was an excellent game of football with some great scores from both sides. With 20 minutes of the half gone Deel Rangers had taken the lead for the first time in the match, but credit to lads for putting the head down and continuing their hard work.
In the remaining 10 minutes the sides were level three times, but luckily we got the break at the end and came out on top by one point. Final score was, Rathkeale 2-11 to Deel Rangers 2-10. Training continues this Friday night at 6pm in the Bog Garden, we expect to see everyone there as there is still alot of work to be done.

First Intermediate Football Championship for Sean Finns
Congratulations to our Intermediate footballers and their team management who created a little bit of history in Croagh last Sunday evening when Sean Finns captured their first West Intermediate Football Championship by beating Athea on a score-line of 1-12 to 1-09. Brendan Stack of Newcastlewest was the referee in charge. Brian McKenna opened the scoring for Athea, before Keith Hartnett got Sean Finns off the mark and Eoghan O'Connor (2) pushed us into a lead that we were never to relinquish. Kevin Mahony pointed for Athea to close the gap to a single point. At this stage, yellow cards were being flashed in abundance by Brendan Stack with Shane Hourigan, and Trevor Nolan both seeing yellow for Sean Finns and Tommy Greaney of Athea also getting a flash. O'Connor pointed a free for Sean Finns which were quickly followed by a pair from Mark O'Sullivan. To push the deelsiders further ahead. Sean McGrath replied with a free for Athea as cousins Keith Harnett (Sean Finns) and Denis Greaney (Athea) both saw yellow. The defining score of the game came from a long range free from O'Sullivan which was mis-handled by the Athea defence and ended up in the back of the net to leave us 1-6 to 0-3 ahead. O'Sullivan and Mahony exchanged points as the first half drew to a close on a score-line of 1-07 to 0-04. Four half time substitutes for Athea followed by another on shortly after the re-start were to prove significant as the half wore on. Two good points
for Sean Finns from County minors Paul White and Eoin O'Donnell got the Rathkeale side off to the best of starts against the wind. Athea. aided now by the strong breeze, got to grips with the game and Patrick Aherne, playing at full forward, was to the fore. From the 9 th to the 20th minute, he scored 1-3 for Athea to reduce the deficit to 2 points and game definitely on. More yellow cards in
this period to Patrick & Brian Ahearne (Athea) and Gary Enright & Patrick Sheahan (Sean Finns). At this stage, Athea had to withdraw Kevin Mahony due to injury and were reduced to 14 men as they had used all 5 subs. O'Connor pushed Sean Finns three clear again, but not to be outdone, Athea replied with a brace from Mark O'Connor & Conor Mullane. However, that was as good as it got for Athea, and after all those yellow cards, it was inevitable that someone would see red as Sean Finns numerical advantage was increased further when Tommy Greaney received a second yellow with 5 minutes to go. Dean Maune & Sean Sheahan secured the victory for the Rathkeale based club with further points for Sean Finns. Final score Sean Finns 1-12, Athea 1-09. Johnny Mooney received the cup from Davy Mann to ringing cheers. He thanked Croagh/Kilfinny for the use of the pitch, the Referee and the team managers including those who were there in spirit and gave three cheers for Athea. Athea were best served by Kevin Mahony and Padraig Aherne. Gary Enright, Mark O'Sullivan and Paul White were best for Sean Finns. Back in Mann's Hotel, Paul White was selected as Man-Of-The-Match

The Weekly Worthless Question
Answer to last week's question: Barry Foley (Ciaran Carey resigned as Limerick hurling selector during the week. He also famously scored that winning point against Clare in the 1996 Munster Hurling Championship, but who scored the equaliser for Limerick that day before Carey's winner?)
Well done to all of you that got it right!

This week's question: Kilkenny had an emphatic victory over Cork in the National League Final over
the weekend, who captained Kilkenny to victory? Answer will be published in next week's notes,
remember there is no prize it's just for the glory!
