City G.A.A. Board Notes
A very quiet weekend was had by the City board last weekend when the board had only three games in the division play this was largely due to the first round of the county senior and intermediate hurling championships taking place and I must congratulate the winning City teams in senior we had Na Piarsaigh and Patrickswell in great form and came away with the winning points in the intermediate hurling we had Ballybrown, Monaleen and Kildimo all with first round victories but Mungret and Claughaun suffered defeats. Back in the City division and in the D.J.Daly Champion Hurley's Pallaskenry Junior A hurling league Mungret sufferned their second defeat in round two of the league when they beaten by seven points 1-10 by Crecora who hit 3-11 Crecora who were beaten in round two got off to winning ways, in the other group two game Na Piarsaigh who are still unbeaten following their 2-15 to 2-09 over Pallaskenry the home team Pallaskenry following their victory in round one were expected to continue their winning ways but came up short. The junior A hurling league will continue on this Tuesday evening with Ballybrown home to St. Patrick's and Patrickswell home to Kildimo in group (1) and in group (2) Crecora are home to Pallaskenry while Mungret will entertain Na Piarsaigh. In Patsy Nicholas Bar Gerald Griffin Street. Junior B football league Claughaun were shocked when Ballinacurra Gaels recorded their first victory after three rounds when they defeated the home team and league leaders Claughaun by 3-07 to 1-08. The other undefeated side in the group Kilullta Gaels failed to field on the night against St. Patrick's the final round games will
Continue this weekend with St. Patrick's home to Ballinacurra Gaels on this Sunday at 1pm while Patrickswell will host Claughaun on this Monday evening at 7.30pm. The semi finals of the Horse & Hound Bar Mulgrave St. Junior B hurling league will take place on this Sunday morning at 12noon when unbeaten Monaleen will take on Patrickswell at Claughaun and the league's second place side Crecora will face Claughaun at Rathbane. The replay of the D.J. Daly Team Flag Ireland Pallaskenry City senior hurling championship final will take place on this Sunday evening at 6.30pn in the Limerick Gaelic Grounds when Ballybrown and Na Piarsaigh will try again to captured the Dean Punch cup following their 3-10 to 2-13 drawn game last time out when the Na Piarsaigh corner forward Adrian Breen was the hero and villain when he struck the all important equaliser goal with the last puck of the game. These two sides Na Piarsaigh and Ballybrown following their successful first round victories in their opening round of the county championship will want to continue their winning ways and this Sunday will be the day to continue the team spirit. The boards new minor hurling league will kick start on this Friday evening when two games are ready to open the league St. Patrick's will host Na Piarsaigh in group (2) and in group (1) Patrickswell will entertain Ballybrown at their home ground both games will have a 7.30pm throw in. Coming up on this Wednesday evening May 25th the board will have the final of the Morrison's Bar & Lounge Ballysimon Road senior football championship when Monaleen and St. Patrick's will battle it out for the Jack Kirby cup. City title holders Monaleen following their defeat of Na Piarsaigh in 2010 will have home advantage following both clubs agreeing to toss for venue and will be looking for two in a row but the Rhebogue side St. Patrick's might have something in store on the night to spring a surprise the last time both these sides meet in the City final Monaleen came out on top by 2-13 to 0-17 but that was back in 2008. Also on the Wednesday evening the Limerick Post Newspaper City intermediate hurling championship semi final will take place between Claughaun and Mungret an venue for this semi final will be announce shortly. The next meeting of the City board will take place on this Monday evening May 23rd at 9pm in the Woodfield House Hotel Ennis Road.
