LIT have been awarded the All-Ireland Freshers hurling title after last week's final against local rivals UL wasn't played.
According to the Irish Examiner, the outcome was decided in the boardroom last night after the teams had turned up at different venues. The final was initially fixed for Mary Immaculate College, but after the pitch there was deemed unplayable, a coin toss took place and LIT were awarded home advantage.
UL weren't happy about this, but they still showed up at Mary Immaculate College on the day of the game. With referee Cathal McAllister and his umpires present in LIT, the ball was thrown in and they waited the required 15 minutes before leaving the pitch, with no presentation having taken place afterwards.
