JUNIOR HURLING: Our Junior hurlers headed back to Cappamore on Sunday evening to face Doon in an East Junior A semi final. A slow start to the game from us saw Doon 6 points to 1 up after only 6 minutes. Two minutes later though, Jake Carroll pounced for a lovely goal, getting on the end of a great ball in by James Enright, to pull it back to a 2 point game. 23 minutes in, Doon pounced for a goal of their own, pushing their lead back out to 6 points and looked to be more comfortable on the ball than we were. 4 minutes later, David Corbett dropped a ball in from midfield on top of the Doon keeper, who completely misjudged it and it fell into the back of the net. Two frees from Andrew Brennan brought the first half to a close, Caherline only 2 points down. Doon started the 2nd half as they did the first and got their 2nd goal 3 minutes into the half, to give them a 5 point lead. To their credit, our lads pushed hard, pulling it back to a 2 point game halfway through the half, but despite some late pressure from us, Doon finished the game 3 points up, Caherline 2-15 Doon 2-18. Caherline now face Kilteely in a 3rd place playoff, probably next weekend.

Caherline started the 2nd half much stronger & pushed Cappamore hard, pulling it back to a single point with 13 minutes left, a goal from Jake Carroll helping the cause greatly, Caherline 1-10 Cappamore 0-14. U-13 HURLING: Caherline U-13's played Pallasgreen on Tuesday August 7th in the penultimate round of the U-13 championship. Although Caherline started positively, it was Pallasgreen who opened the scoring with an early goal and point. However, Caherline took more control of the game from this point on and kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely through a series of goals and points from Hugh Murnane and Sam McElligott. A number of the scores came from well worked passing moves involving several players and such teamwork was great to see. The half time score was Caherline 3-4 Pallasgreen 1-2. The second half was more evenly balanced with Pallasgreen getting some early scores and

Caherline taking their chances as the half wore on. Tadhg Spencer added a fourth goal with the points coming via the sticks of Andy Foley and Hugh Murnane. The match finished on a full time score of Caherline 4-7 Pallasgreen 2-3. This was another good performance from our whole squad so very well done to everyone. Next up is Garryspillane this Thursday evening at home in our final round robin match. Panel of players was:Thomas Carroll, Stephen McAnulty, Sean Tiernan, Sean McGrath, Robbie Hehir, Aaron Kearney, Alan Whelan, Niall Connaughton, Kieran Godfrey, Hugh Murnane (2-5), Cathal Kearns, Andy Foley (0-1), Jamie Boland, Sam McElligott (1-1), Zack Vaughan, Tadhg Spencer (1-0),

Josh Halvey, Evan Martin, Padraig McCarthy, Cillian O'Connor, Alex Murnane.

Two days later, we played played Garryspillane in the final round robin match. From the throw in, Garryspillane were on the attack and a fine save from Thomas Carroll in addition to outstanding defending by the Caherline backs kept the match scoreless during the early exchanges. Caherline grew into the match and by mid way through the first half they had 3 points on the scoreboard, had hit the cross bar and and had a ball cleared off the Garryspillane line. During this phase, Caherline were the dominant team but Garryspillane always looked dangerous on the counter attack. By half time, Caherline led on a score line of Caherline 0-4 Garryspillane 0-1. In the second half, Garryspillane were the more dominant side and Caherline were very much on the back foot. However, the Caherline boys looked to have more scores in them when they hit Garryspillane on the break. Heading into the last 5 minutes, Garryspillane had got themselves into a 2 point lead but Caherline first pulled back a point and then when Tadhg Spencer was first onto a breaking ball in the small square, his deft finish to the net put Caherline back in front with time almost up. Close to four minutes of injury time gave Garryspillane time to drop a number of frees into the Caherline square but a huge defensive effort by the Caherline boys ensured they held out for a tremendous win. Final score was Caherline 1-5 Garryspillane 1-3. The win put Caherline on top of the U-13 Division 2 Group 2 table, but we must now wait and see if we remain there once other teams complete their final games next week. Irrespective of whether we hold on and make a county final or not, all the Caherline players should be very proud of themselves and their performances in this years U-13 competition. Panel of players on the night was:Thomas Carroll, Stephen McAnulty, Sean McGrath, Ben Madden, Robbie Hehir, Aaron Kearney, Alan Whelan, Niall Connaughton (0-1), Kieran Godfrey, Sean Partridge, Hugh Murnane (0-2), Cathal Kearns, Andy Foley, Jamie Boland, Sam McElligott (0-2), Zack Vaughan, Tadhg Spencer (1-0), Josh Halvey, Padraig McCarthy, Cillian O'Connor, Alex Murnane.
