The Late Tom Mimna There is a widespread regret in his native Drumreilly and surrounding parishes at the death of Mr. Tom Mimna, Toome, which occured at his residence following a brief illness. He was in his 89th year and led a most colourful life being a star footballer with a number of his brothers on the Drumreilly football team. He later played with the famous Drumreilly team who could boast of famous star footballers such as the late Con Reilly, Benny Reilly, Michael O'Brien, Jim O'Rourke, all deceased, and Donal Murray, Pat Fitzpatrick, Fr. Bernie Doyle who are still hale and hearty. In his young days he was a star athlete and his association with the late John Maguire, Aughersakilla, Ballyconnell, led to his joining the famous Tomregan Harriers Club in 1943. He won the Ulster Junior Cross Country title at Newry in 1943 abd two weeks later won the senior title coming home in a creditable final in Dunleer, Co. Louth. Throughout his long life he maintained an abiding interest in the GAA and had a great memory of players and games of former years. He shared the fortunes of his nephew, Christopher, won an Intermediate Championship medal, he was a life-long member of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association aided by his devotion to Our Lady. He was a hard working man all of his life and the district is much poorer for his passing. He was predeceased by his wives Brigid and Lily, and also brothers John Joe, Michael and Anthony. Sympathy is extended to his son Tomas, daughter-in-law Rosie, brothers Christy, Toome, Aloysius, Ballyconnell, Jimmy, Meath, sisters Ita, U.S.A. and Peggy, Drumlea, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and a large circle of friends. The removal was to St. Mary's Church, Drumlea, where there were Guards of Honour by the Drumreilly GAA club, local Active Age Group, and St. Mary's N.S. Children. A very large attendence was also present in St. Mary's Drumlea for this concelebrated Mass in which Very Rev. Denis Murray, P.P. Carrigallen, was the chief celebrant assisted by Very Rev. Canon Kelly, Very Rev. Tom McKiernan, P.P. Kilnavat, and Very Rev. Frank Kellegher P.P. Denn, a native of the parish. Burial took place in adjoining cemetery.
