Flynn, Noel

February 02, 2007
The late Noel Flynn It is with great sadness we record the untimely death of Noel Flynn on January 24, 2007 after a short illness at the relatively young age of 62. Noel holds a distinctive place in Leitrim GAA as the only player to win nine Leitrim Senior Championship medals - a feat achieved from 1964 to 1978. In that period, he won seven Senior Championships with Ballinamore and a further two with his native Aughawillan. It's a record that was not surpassed in his lifetime and is unlikely to be surpassed in the foreseeable future. Apart from his exploits on the field of play, Noel was a former Chairman of Aughawillam GAA and regular participant in Senior Scor representing his Club frequently in Solo Singing, Ballad Group and Question Time. Outside the GAA, Noel was a very active member of his community. He was secretary of the Corraleehan GWS and w as the primary mover in ensuring the upgrading of the scheme and its subsequent transfer to a public water source. He was involved down the years with the Boy Scouts, the Community Centre, the Parish Council, the Corraleehan Choir and was a member of the Suaimhneas Choir. Noel was a very likable fellow and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He had a great turn of phrase and was extremely witty. But more than that, he had a great outlook on life and could always see the bigger picture. He was articulate and well read and would readily lend advice and assistance to anyone who called to his door. Even though he was forced to retire early from his employment in the bank due to ill health, he never complained and undertook his new role in his stride. He was an exemplary parent and will be sorely missed by his wife Gabrille, three sons, Patrick, Richard and Edward and his sister Mairead. On behalf of Aughawillan GAA, we would like to offer our sympathy to his family, relations and wide circle of friends. Ar dheis Dé ar a anamh dilis. Courtesy of The Leitrim Observer 2 February 2007
