Murray, Oliver

The late Oliver Murray Olly has gone to his eternal reward following a tragic accident outside Carlow Town. He was a National Teacher in Aughavas for a few years and was a great loss to the parish when he transferred to another school outside Leitrim. Olly wore the Green and White jersey of Aughavas and the Green and Gold of Leitrim with distinction. A Co. Clare man, he cherished his adopted county. Loved and trusted by his team mates he gave all of his boundless energy to the action on the field. On the field he was a colossus, never asking, never giving and quarter. The word fear was not in Olly's vocabulary. He was absolutely fearless for no quarter and gave no quarter. Olly married the late Nacy Heslin, a lady of the renowned Heslin family and sister of his fellow renowned Aughavas footballer Dr. Leo Heslin another giant in football terminology for his consistent brilliant performances with Aughavas and Leitrim and who also tragically left us following a traffic accident. Olly will be forever remembered not only by his students to whom he was totally committed in their education but also to the multitude of friends in Leitrim who had the honour of knowing him as well as the men in Green and White who soldiered with him in the football field. He may have departed this mortal life but his name will forever live in the annals of Aughavas and Leitrim football. Solas na Bulaithis De Anam Dilis. Courtesy of the Leitrim Observer 14 April 3006
