Flynn, James (Paddy)

The late James (Paddy) Flynn There was much sadness in the Irish community in New York and locally here in Leitrim at the news of the recent passing of James Patrick Flynn, more commonly known as Paddy. Paddy was born in Tonnagh, Carrick-on-Shannon in 1944 to the late James and Nora Flynn. He was the eldest of the Flynn family and was a past pupil of Kiltoghert National School and later of Rosary High School, Carrick-on-Shannon. Paddy emigrated to America in 1963 and worked for (UPS) the United Parcel Service in New York city for 35 years. Paddy met his wife Esther O'Hara, a native of Unchinagh, Ballinamore there and had three children; Brian, Mark (RIP) and Keith. Paddy was fond of the GAA. He was a familiar face at all gaelic games in Gaelic Park and played himself for Leitrim in New York. His love for set dancing was unrivalled and he and Esther were found at every ceili, never leaving the dance floor. He had a keen interest in home affairs and drove a distance to get his copy of the Leitrim Observer every week, updating himself with the local happenings in Kiltoghert parish and of all the sports fixtures taking place during the week. He was a member of the Leitrim society in New York for many years and attended all annual events. During Paddy's illness he was cared for at home by his wife Esther and family and friends. He is predeceased by his son Mark and his mother Nora Flynn, who died earlier this year. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Esther, son Brian, his wife Amy and grandson Brian junior; his son Keith and his wife Jodie; his brothers Michael (Leitrim); Kevin (San Fransisco); Sean (New York) and Brendan (Leitrim) and sisters Frances Whitney (Leitrim) and Noreen Rubotham (Kildare).
