The Late Frank Daly The news of the death of Frank Daly, Leitrim village - and formerly Garda Siochana, Cootehall - which sad event occurred at the North West Hospice, Sligo on Monday, October 14th was received with deep regret over a wide area of North Roscommon and South Leitrim. Frank, a native of Bundoran, Co. Donegal, served the people of this area for many years, at first in Boyle before being transferred to Cootehall in 1975 where he was to remain until retiring in 1996 . While there he proved to be an efficient, courteous and popular member of the force, who was always impartial in his dealings with the public, where a bit of fatherly advice or warning were deemed sufficient it was always forthcoming. Not for him a full notebook, his motto was to lead the youth by example, a member of St. Michael's G.A.A. Club and of all events promoting the welfare of the club and parish, he was indeed an inspiring figure to all of them. Married to Mollie McGovern, a native of Swanlinbar, Co. Cavan, whose uncle Owen Roe McGovern was the winner of two All-lreland medals with his native Cavan: They had five children, four sons Martin, Peter, Niall and Donal and one daughter Karen. Also left to mourn for him are his mother May (Bundoran), brothers, sisters Sr. Simon and Sr. Zita; daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren and many relatives and friends. His removal from Shivnan's Funeral Home, Ballyfarnon to Saint Michael's Church, Cootehall took place on Wednesday evening, October 16th at 7 o'clock. Following Mass on Thursday at 12 p.m. his funeral proceeded to Killeelan Cemetery where he was laid to rest. To all who grieve for Frank, his fond wife Mollie, his daughter Karen, his sons Martin, Peter, Niall and Donal, his loving mother May, his sisters Sr. Simon and Sr. Zita, his brothers, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, may we extend our deepest sympathy. May he rest in peace and may God comfort and console those left to mourn. Courtesy of The Leitrim Observer October 2002
