Greenan, Paul

November 07, 2008
There was widespread mourning in the Mohill area and further afield following the sad passing of the extremely popular Paul Greenan. Paul was best known as a great businessman having successfully ran 'Paul's Newsagents' for many years while previously to that he also had a bar and shop on Mohill's Main Street where the newsagents and gift shop now trade. The genial Paul was also involved in community activities such as Town-Development and Festivals. On a more personal level Paul was a great family man and an extremely generous man with a great sense of humour as a colourful and larger than life character. In his younger days Paul was a keen sportsman playing both football and hurling with Mohill and St. Finbar's respectfully. Paul played senior and junior football with the club during the 1960s and 1970s and won a Junior Championship with the club in 1968 when he lined out at centre-field and a senior medal in 1971 when he was brought on as a sub in the final in Carrick against Ballinamore. A skillful and fearless footballer he also loved the game of hurling and featured on a very successful St. Finbar's team during the 1960s with whom he won a number of Leitrim Senior Hurling Medals. Paul would have given sponsorship to Mohill teams over the years and indeed "Paul's" has as long as I can remember being the meeting place for travelling Mohill teams in all grades. To his sons Fintan, Brian, Shane, daughters Ciara, Breege, his loving wife Josephine, and all his other family members and friends we extend our deepest sympathy. Leitrim Observer, 7th November 2008
