Leitrim manager Terry Hyland is demanding a performance off his charges when they meet Wicklow in the All-Ireland SFC qualifier on Saturday.

The Connacht side have home advantage, but their record in the qualifiers has been poor and that is something that Hyland is keen to rectify.

Following their exit from the Connacht SFC at the hands of Roscommon, the job for Hyland has been to regroup and get the players focused on the qualifiers where the Cavan native feels that the focus hasn’t been on after gaining promotion from the league.

“There would have been a little bit of that and maybe there might have been in some lads minds, maybe with the older lads, a job done type of scenario, promotion is what we’ve been considering the Holy Grail for the last ten years and now we’ve got it,” Hyland relayed to the Leitrim Observer.

“There is an element also, maybe, of some of them going back to their clubs and some of the clubs saying ‘look lads, you won the league, you got promoted, now come back to us because you ain’t going to win a Connacht championship’. All these things get into people’s heads.”
