Leitrim GAA

On planes, trains, boats and buses the Leitrim faithful headed to Croke Pairc at the weekend to see the green and cold in action at this year’s division four final, it was a sight to be hold with so many from our small county traveling to see the lads in action.

As the fans made their way to Croke Pairc from Quinn’s and the other bars in the vicinity it was hard to pick out anyone not dressed from head to toe in the Leitrim Colours. There was a fantastic atmosphere in and around the ground with fans mingling and meeting up with friends and neighbours that they had not seen maybe in days or years with many having travelled from the four corners or Ireland, the UK, Europe, America and beyond. In all before even a ball had been kicked it was a day that Leitrim fans will remember for a long time.

The match started well, I am sure the players lifted by the very vocal Leitrim support, putting in a fantastic performance but alas at the end when the final whistle was blown it was not to be, it was not the result we wanted, but some great memories were made in Croke Pairc, to all the Leitrim players and our very own Oisin, Shane and Dean thanks for the hard work, skill and commitment you have shown, a great bunch of men who are always there for their  young fans, and to be honest that’s what it’s all about showing the next generation what hard work and commitment can achieve, we didn’t win but winning is not everything, we have gained promotion and the lads  played well and on another day may be we would have won .

The fans both young and old seldom get the opportunity to visit HQ and what a day we had, to hear Leitrim, Leitrim, Leitrim reverberate around the hallowed turf brought a tear to the eye and despite the deficit at the end the chorus could  still be heard you, would almost swear it was us that won as the Leitrim faithful stood and showed their admiration to the team.

The fans that were there will not forget, it was a pleasure to be there. So lads hold your heads high and thanks for the memories, thanks to Dean, Oisin and Shane for coming over to our young fans at the end despite the loss they had time for their young fans who had cheered them on, those same fans will not remember that we lost they will just know they were with their heroes at the end. Thanks lads !!

All at the club would like to pass on our deepest sympathies at this difficult time to Maria’s husband Gerry Hanifan, John & Mary Harte , brothers Conor, Shane & Aidan, sisters, Janette, Anita & Lynda, mother-in-law Mary, brothers-in-law Colum, Gene, Padraig and Richard, sisters-in-law Tina, Helen, Gráinne, Alison and Martina, beloved nephews & nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Maria and all the Harte family are tied explicably with the club playing an integral part in everything we have done in the past, present and future, be it football, hurling, Scór, playing, training, managing  or  just supporting, the Harte’s have been with us through our good times and bad times and we hope that we can be with them through this difficult time.

We ask all our friends and supporters to please keep Maria and all her friends and family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
