The late Michael Golden and Peter Fitzpatrick Two of Laois Hurling greats passed to their eternal reward. Michael Golden, a passionate hurling man and former Vice President of the Rathdowney club died. He served in an administrative role of Laois hurling throughout the Forties and Fifties, and had a fondness for what he called 'Ossory' style of hurling. Peter Fitzpatrick, from the Kilcotton club and a member of the hurling panel which reached the 1949 All-Ireland final - the Laois last appearance- also died. Peter was well known in the GAA circles. An outstanding hurler and brother of the late Timmy who was between the Laois posts that year, Peter was an active club member. He was a steward for Laois GAA and Croke Park for many years, his endearing manner and love of the game of hurling won him many friends. Courtesy of the Leinster Express 20/09/2006
