McEvoy, Michael

May 31, 2004
The late Michael Mc Evoy Ballyroan lost one of their finest Gaels with the death of Michael McEvoy of Clonbrin. For years Michael was a club official but even in retirement he was the man who could be contacted for information on his beloved Ballyroan. He never missed a match that Ballyroan played and he also had a keen interest in the affairs of Spink, Ballypickas, Colt and Abbeyleix. Indeed he loved watching any two clubs do battle in hurling or football. In recent years his proudest moment was when Tony McManon became the only man from the village to bring the Jack Delaney Cup to the 'Red Hills' after beating St. Joseph's in 1992, their first title since the days of Paddy Peacock, Tom Irwin and the Whelans. Mick McEvoy loved life to the full and loved sports of any kind. He was also a well known card player - he attended whist drives several times a week and was always fair and honest. He will be missed from GAA games, bingo and card games but he will be miss most of all by his family to whom deepest sympathy is extended. Michael was laid to rest in Ballyroan.
