Brennan, Dinny

The untimely death took place on Sunday, September 30th after a short illness of Denis 'Dinny' Delaney Brennan of Borris little Portlaoise.

Born in Portlaoise on December 9, 1933 Dinny was reared in Clones where he went to school, but he returned to Portlaoise where he became a psychiatric nurse in St. Fintan's Hospital in July 1954. He retired in 1993. A keen sportsman, he was very active in the hospital Gaelic football set up winning many trophies at inter hospital level and even a Psychiatric All Ireland medal. He was also a member of the great 'Park' football team in the 1930s and played inter county football with Laois. He was also Secretary of the Portlaoise Athletics Club.

He was also a long standing member of the Hospital social committee. He later became a member of the retired psychiatric nurses committee and chaired the last meeting two weeks before his untimely passing. To everyone he was known as a quite gentleman who was known for non-judgemental approach to all he met and looked after during his nursing career. Dinny also had a keen interest in current affairs, gardening and sport.

His family have also lost a much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother in law and uncle. Beloved husband of Mary and loving father to Marie, Patricia and Deirdre, Joey and Denis and father to the late Noel, Dinny is deeply regretted by his loving family, brothers Jackie(Br. Eugene.), Tommy, Billy, Fintan, sisters Eileen and Mary, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grand-children, great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends. He was reposed at his residence followed by removal for Requiem Mass in SS Peter and Paul's Church followed by Interment in SS. Peter and Paul's Cemetery Portlaoise.
