Laois SHC final replay: comeback win for Rathdowney
October 22, 2012
Rathdowney-Errill and Laois star Brian Campion
Rathdowney-Errill 0-17
Clough-Ballacolla 0-14
Rathdowney-Erill recovered from a seven-point interval deficit to beat 14-man Clough-Ballacolla in a thrilling Laois SHC final replay at O'Moore Park on Saturday.
Denied a win by Ross King's late equalising point last weekend, champions Clough-Ballacolla hit the ground running with five points inside the first 10 minutes before Darren King opened the winners' account. Willie Hyland and Stephen Maher added points for Clough-Ballacolla, but efforts from the King brothers kept Rathdowney-Errill in touch.
However, three points from Mick McEvoy and four from Stephen Maher had the holders perched on a commanding 0-13 to 0-6 lead at the break.
But with the wind to their backs in the second half, Rathdowney-Errill staged a tremendous comeback which saw them outscore their opponents by 0-11 to 0-1. They had levelled the scoring at 0-14 apiece before Clough-Ballacolla had Tom Delaney red-carded with 10 minutes to go.
County star Brian Campion then edged Rathdowney-Errill ahead with a long-range effort before a late Ross King brace completed the comeback.
