Laois SHC final: King to the rescue
October 15, 2012
Rathdowney/Errill 1-11
Clough/Ballacolla 2-8
Ross King had an afternoon to remember as Rathdowney/Errill forced a draw with holders Clough/Ballacolla in the Laois SHC final at O'Moore Park.
The teenager shot 1-9, including the equalising point in the second minute of injury-time, to send the O'Moore County decider to a replay for the first time in 19 years. King accounted for all of Rathdowney/Erill's first half tally as they took a 1-4 to 0-4 lead into the interval - his goal coming in the 24th minute.
Clough/Ballacolla were completely out of the game for much of the opening quarter and had to wait until the 14th minute for county star Willie Hyland to open their account.
Rathdowney/Errill opened up a four-point lead on the restart before Willie Dunphy's 43rd minute goal left the champions just a point adrift. When Dunphy netted again in injury-time, Clough/Ballacolla looked to have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, but there was still time for King to save Rathdowney/Erill's bacon.
