The late Pat O' Shea
People around Laois were saddened to hear of the passing of Pat O' Shea, the gentle giant from Kerry who had lived in Laois for the last three decades.
Pat, who had worked in the hotel and tourism industry for most of his life, was manager of the Killeshin and Montague hotels for many years and was a well known character throughout the county.
As well as working in the hotel industry, Pat also set up Travelchoice, a travel company based in Portlaosie that facilitates French tourists travelling to Ireland. Close friend, fellow Kerryman and former co-worker Michael Murphy was shocked and saddened to hear of the news. Having worked with Pat both in Kenmare and in Laois, Michael said that Pat 'was a great man and very well known. He gave great employment when he worked in the hotels here'. Although he had made Laois his home for the past three decades, Michael said of Pat,' You can take the man out of Kerry but you can't take Kerry out of the man'.
Part of a strong footballing heritage, Pat's brother Jerome has an All-Ireland winner with Kerry. His Nephew Conor is a well known former Irish rugby player.
Pat is deeply regretted by his wife Anne, his son Padraic, daughter Mary, daughter in law Henrietta, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephewa, extended family and friends. Pat was removed to St Fintan's Church in Ballyfinn on Sunday last, and after requiem mass on Monday was brought to Kerry where he was laid to rest in Kenmare cemetery.
