The Laois senior football championship semi-finals take place this weekend.

Having reached the last four without over-exerting themselves, defending champions Portlaoise are once again favourites for the title.

St Joseph’s have looked impressive during the campaign and even though they had to dig deep to grind out the win against Stradbally last time out, they will go into this game in a confident mood.

However, they will need to be at their very best to halt the march of the town team who yet again look ominous in their quest for another title.

Meanwhile, the other semi-final see O’Dempsey’s and Graiguecullen meet in a repeat of an earlier group game in the campaign.

On that occasion Graiguecullen eased to victory and there is little to suggest that result will be altered this weekend.
