Despite Laois having the upper hand in recent meetings, Carlow manager Turlough O'Brien believes that Sunday's Leinster SFC semi-final against the O'Moore County will be a 'tight' affair.

Not many would have expected this line up for Sunday's provincial clash, but both sides are there on merit and determined to make the most of the opportunity to reach a Leinster SFC final.

O'Brien points to the fact that both encounters with Laois this year were won by the O'Moore County on narrow margins and he is confident that his charges can swing the pendulum in their favour in this local derby.

"There are a lot of players from south Laois clubs where Carlow would be their local town. It's a healthy rivalry. Of course, we'd love to beat Laois but they've had the upper hand for as long as I can remember really," O'Brien told the Carlow Nationalist.

"They beat us in both games this year, but it was narrow enough. Either game could have gone either way really. So I think it will be a tight game."
