Laois captain Stephen Attride was a proud man walking up the steps of Croke Park last Saturday and he believes it would not have been possible without their manager John Sugrue.

Attride became the first Laois senior player to lift silverware in Croke Park since Ian Fitzgerald captained the county to victory in the 2003 Leinster SFC final.

On this occasion, it was the NFL 4 Cup that Attride was receiving and he told the Leinster Express that Sugrue was the main reason for them making a quick return to NFL 3.

"Just unbelievable enthusiasm," was Attride's first thoughts on Sugrue's management style. "He makes you aware of what you are playing for, you're playing for Laois people and as I said, his enthusiasm is infectious.

"He also has a very tactical brain, so it's going well so far, we're looking forward to things in the summer, and next year as well. We're seven from seven in the league, so wins breed momentum, and momentum brings a good mentality, so we'll bring this momentum into the championship now."
