Irish soccer heroine is steeped in the GAA

Amber Barrett has been making headlines after her late goal secured a vital 2-1 win for the Republic of Ireland women's soccer team over Slovakia in their FIFA 2019 World Cup qualifying campaign at the Tallaght Stadium last evening.
The Milford woman came off the bench to score her first international goal with just three minutes remaining to set up a big showdown with European champions Holland on Tuesday. It was only last year that the Peamount United striker decided to concentrate on soccer after being a key part of the Donegal ladies football team. Her family are steeped in the GAA, with her father Sean Paul being a former Donegal minor manager, while her brothers Luke and Kane are players with Milford.
Ireland's other goal-scorer, Leanne Kiernan, also played Gaelic football in her native Cavan before focusing on her soccer career with Shelbourne and Ireland.
