Coburn, Paddy

The Late Paddy Coburn Paddy Coburn, Athy and late of 19 Kilcarrig Street, Bagenalstown, died recently in St. James's Hospital. He had been in failing health for the last year. As a young man growing up in Bagenalstown, Paddy played hurling with Erin's Own Hurling Club and football with St. Andrew's. He was a keen cross country runner and won many trophies. He served at the late Monsignor Conway's first Mass as Parish Priest in Bagenalstown and sang at the midnight opening of the McGrath Memorial Hall n 1945. On leaving school Paddy served his apprenticeship as a mechanic in Rea's Garage, The Parade. When he had his apprenticeship served he went to work at Smith's Garage, Athy. He then went to work as Workshop Manager in Jackson's Garage and Chapman and Timoney in Kildare town. Paddy was a very popular member of his local community and in his home town of Bagenalstown, where he was fondly remembered as a generous, charismatic and caring person. Paddy met and married Kathleen Stynes from Athy and they set up home there. Paddy is mourned and missed by his wife, Kathleen; daughter Sandra; son Padraig; granddaughter Anna; daughter-in-law Marian; mother-in-law Sheila; brothers John, Phil, Thomas and Aidan who all live in the Bagenalstown area. He is also mourned by his sister-in-law Brigid, Sheila, Mary, Kay and Philomena and by his bothers-in-law Anthony, Pascal, Ken, Finbar and by his many other relatives and friends. He was laid to rest in St Michael's Cemetery, Athy after his Funeral Mass in St Michael's Church. Courtesy of The Kilkenny People July 2008
