The Late Paddy Kennedy The death took place in Bolton, England on January 7 of Paddy Kennedy, formerly of The Ring, brother of the late Dan Kennedy, captain of Kilkenny All-Ireland winning hurling team (1947). His funeral service took place in St Brendan's Church, Bolton. The lessons were read by Noel Skehan (nephew of Paddy). During communion and Irish air was played by Fintan and Bernard Sheehan ( Paddy's nephews). Interment took place in Heaton Cemetery and refreshments for family and friends were provided afterwards in the Irish community centre in Bolton. Paddy was a member of the first Bennettsbridge schools under-14 team to win a county championship (1944) in hurling. He played with the 'Bridge juniors prior to going to England. He emigrated to England in the 1950s where he worked as an oil tanker driver until he retired. He met his wife Maureen in England and they married in 1960. Maureen is from Kerry. In Bolton Paddy was very much involved in the GAA and was a founder member of the Bolton hurling club. He attended all the All-Irelands when his native Kilkenny were playing and he was a regular visitor to Bennettsbridge. He is survived by his wife Maureen; daughter Siobhan; sisters Joney Hayes, Kilkenny and Birdie Lawlor, Luton; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother Dan and sisters Mrs Mena Lanigan, Thomastown and Mrs May Skehan, Bennettstown. Courtesy of the Kilkenny People 22nd February 2008
