The late Jamie Broderick There were heartwrenching scenes as the young people of Kilkenny bade farewell to a fond friend. Fr Mark Condon celebrated the funeral Mass in St Mary's Cathedral. He spoke to the young congregation about the power of the resurrection in his sermon as he tried to help the visible shocked youngsters come to terms with the tradgedy. Hundreds of students wearing their uniforms silently filed down High Street shortly after midday on their way from St Mary's Cathedral to St Kieran's cemetery. A number of them carried single red roses in a poignant tribute to the popular young man. Jamie Broderick was hit by a car on the Kells to Kilkenny road just past Bamford Cross at round 7pm, February 6th, 2007. He is survived by his father, David and also his brother called David. His mother Eileen (nee Delaney) from Walkin Street died ten year ago. Jamie attended the CBS in Kilkenny and left in 2005 after he completed his Junior Cert. "He was a fine young fella and was also pleasant to be around. He was very popular with his peers and played schools hurling" a spokesman for the school said. The youngster also played hurling for Dicksboro at underage level. In recent months Jamie worked as a waiter in Langton's Hotel on John Street where he was popular both with his employees and colleagues. Restaurant manager, Mr Shane Larkin told the Kilkenny People that the young man had made a strong impact during his short time in the hotel. "He joined us before Christmas. He was a grand young lad and he was a pleasure to be around. He was very well-liked by the staff and customers alike. "Jamie really enjoyed his work an was studying to be a chef. He was gaining experience working in Langton's and was obviously capable. I couldn't believe when I heard what had happened. He had been working in the restaurant the previous week.
