The late Paddy McCullagh The death of Paddy McCullagh, Castlewarren saw the passing of a great Kilkenny Gael. Paddy was well known and much loved in Paulstown, Ballysallagh and Castlewarren districts, especially among the farming community. He had worked with many farmers in those area during his younger days and also have some time as a gravedigger. As a young man Paddy played hurling with the now defunct city club, Éire Og and earlier in his hurling career had also lined out with Dicksboro. In 1956 he was a member of the county minor hurling panel. All his life he was an avid follower of the Kilkenny hurlers and seldom missed a major game in which they were involved. He was a staunch supporter of the Fianna Fáil party with a strong nationalist outlook. Everything Celtic captured his imagination, céilí dancing, Irish ballads, etc. He was a talented Irish dancer and loved to sing rebel songs when socialising with his friends. Reading history books, repairing and riding motor bikes also gave him great pleasure. Paddy loved to swim and fish in the sea and his favourite places were Duncannon in Co Wexford and Tramore. He also spent many happy summer holidays in Mayo in the company of his sister. He will be sadly missed by his family, his special friend Fr Eugene O'Sullivan and Martin O'Keeffe but most of all by myself, his only daughter. He never failed to visit me every Sunday and also at my place of work during the week. He was a very special Dad to me and I know know that in his eyes I was a very special daughter. Rest in peace Dad I will never forget you - Margaret. Courtesy of the Kilkenny People 16 February 2007
