Brophy, Patsy

October 13, 2006
The late Patsy Brophy Mayhora had lost one of its more senior and respected people, with the death of Patsy Brophy at St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny. One of nature's gentlemen, his kind and friendly disposition endeared him to all in the community. A man who worked hard all his life, he epitomised the value of a good neighbour to so many in the area. The greater part of his working days were spent in the Old Creamery or Glanbia as it is known today. A lifelong member of the PTAA, he was a staunch supporter, team selector and committee member of Erin's Own Hurling Club. The coffin was draped in the blue and white of Erin's Own and the cortege was accompanied to the church by a guard of honour compromising past, present and juvenile members of Erin's Own GAA Club along with Glanbia employees. Burial was in Crosshill Cemetery after Requiem Mass celebrated in the Church of the Immaculate Conception by Msgr Michael Ryan PP, Catlecomer; assisted by Fr Denis Purcell CC, Moneenroe; Fr Liam Shore and Fr Tom Corcoran, CC Castlecomer. Patsy Brophy is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Michael (Dublin), Patsy and Tom; daughters, Mary, and Eleanor; grandchildren; other relatives and a wide circle of friends.
