The late Ronan Dowling The tragic death of Ronan Dowling, Yellow Road has shocked the entire community. He was a quiet and reserved person who in the short space of 20 years packed so much into his life. He enjoyed all sports and played soccer from an early age, he also found time to follow the family tradition in the boxing ring and had the distinction of winning a Minor County Hurling Championship medal with Erin's Own. He took a keen interest in motorcycles. The huge turnout at the obsequies reflected the high esteem in which the family are held in the area. Many of his former team mates from Erin's Own GAA Club formed a fitting guard of honour as the cortege made its way to the church. Burial was in the Parish cemetery after Mass celebrated in the Church of the Immaculate Conception by Fr Tom Corcoran CC Castlecomer (chief celebrant) assisted by Mgr Micheal Ryan PP Castlecomer; Fr Larry Wallace PP Muckalee; Fr Dan Bollard PP Clogh; Fr Willie Hennessy PP Castletown, Co Laois; Fr Denis Purcell CC Moneenroe. Also in attendance was Canon Tom Sherlock, Rector Castlecomer Group of Parishes. Ronan is survived by his father Paddy, mother Betty, daughter Sarah, brothers Raymond and Adrian, sisters Linda, Eilis and Patricia, other relatives and a large circle of friends.
