The late Tom Casserly A Galway man who was loved and respected by the people of Kilkenny city has passed away. Tom Casserly, Ceaderwood Avenue, Loughboy was a former senior inter-county footballer and played in the All-Ireland senior football final of 1945 when he lined out with Cavan (where he was working at the time) against Cork. He was best known as the proprietor, along with his wife Kay, of the Coffee Shop in Loughboy. Tom who was 85 years when he passed away, took an active interest in community affairs around Loughboy and will be remembered by his neighbours and friends for his quiet presence and his willingness to help in any way that he could. A native of Milltown, Tuam. Co. Galway, he maintained a great love and interest in all aspects of life in his native place. As an inspector with the department of agriculture, Tom lived and worked all over Ireland including area of Cavan, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Cork, Kerry and Laois. The family moved to Kilkenny in 1981 and Tom worked in the Kilkenny office of the department of agriculture until he retired in 1986. Tom passed away on August 23, 2006 in Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny surrounded by members of his family.
